Noodles and Bok Choi

In Beijing, sometimes the street food is slightly more elegant, meaning that it is delivered to the diner by a waitress. In this image, the server is carrying four bowls of noodles, dumplings and sliced vegetables, likely Bok Choi. It is similar to having a big bowl of soup that you eat with chopsticks -- yes, chopsticks and a small soup spoon. Some people are a little afraid of street because they wonder just how safe it could be. It's cooked fresh, made to order and it is cooked in front of you. How many traditional restaurants can claim even one of those three things?

Street Food

I've been working on images of street food. And, eating some of it too. This really isn't street food since it is dried stuff -- mushrooms, grains, rice, seeds. But, you can buy it on the street in most Chinese and Southeast Asian cities. The Chinese is character is the content. The dollar amount is in Hong Kong Dollars. Everything is weighed by hand. Very old fashion. Bless them for that.

Heading Toward The Sun

One day I was driving along New Mexico State Highway 41 from Moriarity -- where people wear cowboy boots and mean it -- toward the little village of Galisteo when I decided to stop in order to make a picture. No cars were coming so I put the camera on the double yellow line and made this frame.

Blue Gate

At the Albu - querque Photo - grapher's Gallery -- which I partially own -- a lot of the photo - graphers are big on blue doors. They seem to be a symbol for northern New Mexico. So one day, I found this. A Blue Gate. A blue gate to nowhere. I haven't printed it yet, but when I do I'll be sure to hang it at the gallery. Eventually. Blue doors. Indeed.

Another

Here's another New Mexico bush that I couldn't even begin to name. It's white. It's fluffy. It seems rather hardy. Its interior looks like a bunch of twigs. I photographed it in the shadows so when I tweaked it a bit, some of it picked up the blue in the shadows.

I don't know what else to say. I photographed it because I liked it. It probably won't sell. Not much does these days.

Changes

Changes are always upon us. The car made the horse outmoded. The diesel engine made steam trains outmoded. Jet propelled aircraft made piston powered planes obsolete. The Internet has pretty much every creative business obsolete. Or, at least as I just read, unsustainable... at least in the case of photography as a way to earn a living. What can I say? Maybe I can study some kind of allied medical profession and find a job... until I retire.

I'll leave it to you to figure out way this picture is about changes. If you can't just be happy that it's pretty.

Dancers

There was a day when a dance came to the plaza in which the Albu - querque Photo - grapher's Gallery resides. A group of jitterbuggers from all over the west came and danced to the sounds of the 1930s, 40s and 60s. These folks could really dance. In fact, they couldn't not dance. The walk to one of the cafes in the plaza, the music would start and they'd start shimming and shaking. They were mostly youngish, but there were a few older folks mixed in. Even though I was supposed to watching the gallery, I did take the time to make a few pictures. I made this one from a balcony. I liked the silhouettes. I just seems to be different from what I usually do.
